"This audiobook is essential listening. Narrators Therese Plummer and Emily Shaffer shine as Lo and Bea Denham, two teenage sisters whose lives are upended when their parents are killed in a car accident." — AudioFile Magazine
From Courtney Summers, the New York Times bestselling author of the 2019 Edgar Award Winner and breakout hit Sadie, comes her electrifying follow-up—a suspenseful, pulls-no-punches story about an aspiring young journalist determined to save her sister no matter the cost.

Lo Denham is used to being on her own. After her parents died in a tragic car accident, her sister Bea joined the elusive community called The Unity Project, leaving Lo to fend for herself. Desperate not to lose the only family she has left, Lo has spent the last six years trying to reconnect with Bea, only to be met with radio silence.
When Lo's given the perfect opportunity to gain access to Bea's reclusive life, she thinks they're finally going to be reunited. But it's difficult to find someone who doesn't want to be found, and as Lo delves deeper into The Project and its charismatic leader, she begins to realize that there's more at risk than just her relationship with Bea: her very life might be in danger.
As she uncovers more questions than answers at each turn, everything Lo thought she knew about herself, her sister, and the world is upended. One thing doesn't change, though, and that's what keeps her going: Bea needs her, and Lo will do anything to save her.

Nineteen-year-old Lo Denham’s name isn’t short for lonely, but it could be: after her parents died in a car accident that scarred Lo and left her near death, her adored older sister Bea joined the Unity Project, an insular Upstate New York religious group that’s constantly fighting accusations of culthood. Lo longs to be a writer, but though she’s landed a job at a Vice-like magazine, also upstate, she’s stuck as its editor’s assistant. When she witnesses a suicide that turns out to have links to the Unity Project, she embarks on an investigation of the secretive, seemingly well-meaning group and her sister’s whereabouts. By turns driven, vulnerable, and impulsive, Lo gets closer and closer to the Project’s charismatic, damaged leader, risking everything to find the truth. Alternating Lo and Bea’s viewpoints and moving around in time, Summers (Sadie) makes effective use of each character’s limited knowledge, creating a twisty plot that’s full of hooks. Ages 13–up. Agent: Faye Bender, the Book Group.

Gr 9 Up-Lo Denham knows all about the Unity Project, a cultlike organization that has received a lot of attention for its community outreach. She knows her sister, Bea, joined it after Lo's car accident at the age of 13, which left Lo scarred and their parents dead. Lo hasn't seen her sister since. Six years later, Lo is working for an investigative publication, and the idea of writing an article about the Project, while hopefully reconnecting with her sister, is intriguing. When her boss vetoes the idea, Lo infiltrates the organization on her own and discovers devastating secrets. The nonlinear narrative alternates between Lo's point of view (performed by Emily Shaffer) and Bea's point of view (read by Therese Plummer). Despite the challenges presented by the jumps in time periods from past to present and back again, listeners will easily be drawn into the story and become invested in the characters. The narrators beautifully build suspense, and the intensity never falters. This is one of those compelling audiobooks that will have listeners driving around or walking an extra block just so they can listen longer. The sisters are white, while the secondary characters are of different races. VERDICT Fans of psychological suspense will inhale this production.-Julie Paladino, formerly with East Chapel Hill H.S., NC
